<image:title>About - Coach Caryn Forsgren</image:title>
<image:caption>I get it! I'm a mom to a teenager with ADHD and I have ADHD myself. Back when I was a kid there was no name for my distractibility, bluntness, and seeming inability to anticipate consequences. My parents and teachers were frustrated with my forgetfulness and lackluster performance and told me many times that I was “my own worst enemy,” that I was smart, but “just needed to try harder.” So I adapted. As a mother, I began to recognize similar negative feedback about my young son, dismissive comments about stricter parenting and laziness. He started to complain that he wasn’t good at anything and no one liked him. I felt judged and misunderstood by teachers, friends, and even family which left me (and my son) frustrated and lonely. I wanted to end the cycle for my son before all the negative feedback damaged his self-esteem permanently. I was determined to help him do more than just adapt. That’s when I found ADHD Coaching and knew it was what I had been searching for. My career as a corporate technology trainer and later as a Montessori school computer teacher has prepared me to work with people of all ages. Add to that my extensive, specialized training in ADHD and my passion for helping people recognize the assets that go along with their challenges. As a coach, I bring my knowledge and life experience to guide my clients to overcome their obstacles, build on successes, and reach their full potential.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - The garden is my happy place.</image:title>
<image:caption>Gardeners can agree that when a plant doesn’t bloom, we don’t blame the plant. We think about what we could change about its environment to encourage the plant to flower. Does it need more light? Less water? Better soil? Like plants, each person must find their particular requirements to flourish. People with ADHD are often blamed and shamed for not meeting expectations. All it may take is a curious gardener to nurture them and help them find what’s holding them back. Maybe you’re not operating in your ideal environment? I can help you find exactly what you need to thrive.</image:caption>

<image:title>ADHD & Executive Function - ADHD</image:title>
<image:caption>Many people think of ADHD as a childhood condition associated with behavioral issues, but it’s much more than that. ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurological condition with 3 classifications of symptoms: inattentiveness, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Symptoms vary for each person, so a diagnosis of ADHD can include any combination. Both children and adults can have ADHD, but the symptoms always begin in childhood. A great deal of adults with ADHD were never diagnosed as children because the condition was generally poorly understood and symptoms were overlooked. There is no cure for ADHD and you do not outgrow it. With time, many people learn to live with their ADHD, but symptoms can become more intense as demands increase at school, work, or home. The way these symptoms show up evolves with maturity. Common obstacles associated with ADHD are generally due to a delay in the development of Executive Function.</image:caption>

<image:title>ADHD & Executive Function - Executive Function</image:title>
<image:caption>EF or Executive Functioning skills help you get things done and are often described as the command center of the brain. When Executive Function isn’t working as it should, behavior is less controlled. Executive Function helps you Manage time Initiate and sustain work on tasks Pay attention Switch focus Plan and organize Remember details Avoid saying or doing the wrong thing Use experience to guide future actions Read social cues effectively Manage emotions Weak Executive Function skills can make it hard to meet expectations no matter how hard we may try. We hear lots of negative comments that accumulate and weigh us down. We may even start to believe we are lazy or stupid and we often just give up. It doesn’t have to be this way. The good news is that these EF skills can be strengthened with awareness and practice and that’s where coaching can help.</image:caption>
